Here’s another note I wrote back in 2009 to my Facebook page….I guess I was in a bit of a sentimental mood….

I used to love Good Times. For those who have no idea of what I’m talking about, Good Times was a sit-com set in the early 70’s about a black family living in the notorious Cabrini-Green projects on the near north side of Chicago (my hometown).  The show was groundbreaking for television at the time and influenced an entire generation (GenXers stand up!!).

Below are the lyrics to the beloved  Good Times theme song, which was composed by Dave Grusin and written by Andrew and Marilyn Bergman

Good Times.
Any time you meet a payment.
Good Times.
Any time you need a friend.
Good Times.
Any time you’re out from under.

Not getting hastled, not getting hustled.
Keepin’ your head above water,
Making a wave when you can.

Temporary lay offs.
Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs.
Good Times.
Scratchin’ and surviving.
Good Times.
Hangin in a chow line
Good Times.
Ain’t we lucky we got ’em
Good Times.

Have times changed since 1974? I don’t think so.
Whatta shame.
Shaking my head.

Fast forward to 2010.  Have times changed since 1974? I don’t think so.
Whatta shame.

I think somebody needs to bring Good Times back to television.  Maybe cable tv?
