In this installment of the Portraits of Philadelphia series, this capture is of a young woman named Sharita who was working on her laptop at a local cafe. I had been watching her for a while, and was struck by the seriousness of her overall demeanor, so I decided to approach her for a photograph. She remarked that she wasn’t expecting to have anyone ask for her photograph that day (who does) but agreed to allow me. What I learned from my brief interaction with her is that a lot of women really don’t see their own unique beauty. As I was working on this image in post, I was struck by how beautiful she was, and I wanted to convey this in this profile shot.
