December 31, 2011
I have a confession to make.
Before now, I have harbored mixed feelings about photography challenges and always pegged myself a lone wolf shooter, determined to get ‘er done by any means necessary….
I had the attitude of “who cares who likes my work.” I was working in a vacuum. And, as you probably noticed, I struggled with trying to post a photo of the day to this blog. Trying to juggle my own personal projects with my paid work and assignments (I’ve been blessed!!) was at times, difficult indeed!
But toward the end of this year I realized that all artists (and all creatives) need community and the support and encouragement of fellow artists to keep going, to keep pushing, in the face of so many obstacles (real and imagined). So I’ve been spending more of my time on Flickr and 500px, commenting on the work of fellow photographers and putting my work out there to be viewed and critiqued as well. And to be honest, it’s been a real delightful kick in the pants! The energy, the encouragement, the support, has pushed me to begin to take more risks in my work and to shoot more and often and to not be so self-critical.
And then, in addition to that, this morning, as I was browsing updates to my favorite blogs and websites, I came across my sister in photography’s completed Project 52 for 2011. I was soooo impressed and blown away by her finished product that I decided to jump on the bandwagon and join her in 2012.
Soooooo….. (here comes my pitch, so get ready!)
If you’re a shooter and are down with the effort of building a community of photographers who are committed to shooting, sharing, being supportive to one another and thriving and growing as a result of positive energy and encouragement from others, why don’t you click here to learn more about the project, grab the button, post it to your blog or website, and let’s do this!!!!
In addition to sharing photos over on Tickle*My*Whimsy, I’ll be cross-posting here on my blog, on my Facebook page, Flickr, and Google+ pages! If we haven’t made a social media connection, let’s do so and start the New Year off right!!!
See you in 2012!!!
