April 30, 2011: The Fabulous Seven of Lovett Memorial Library (Mt. Airy)

This impromptu, unplanned photo shoot with these wonderful young people was a nice way to end what turned out to be a pretty hectic and stressful month (got sick, got broker than broke), which culminated in me getting some pretty effed up news in a pretty effed up way.

So I as I was sitting around, bemoaning my fate Saturday afternoon, a group of kids converged on the library. One had a skateboard and was working on his moves.  I watched him for a while, but didn’t have the motivation to take out my camera.

However, that was soon to change, because of one 6-year-old boy who caught my eye with his boundless energy, adorable face and irresistible smile that made it hard for me to just sit and watch him run laps around the library grounds. So after like the fifth or sixth time watching him leap over one of the benches and flash me a smile that said, “I’m winning,” I decided to take out my camera and capture some images.

Turns out, their smiling faces, curiosity and enthusiasm, combined with the awesome natural light, made for some pretty neat photos. And the whole experience lifted my spirits and made everything that transpired earlier that day oh so insignificant.  Like I always say…kids are honest.  They will tell you the truth and their expressions never lie.  The older I get, the more inclined I am to want to deal with children than I am with adults.

At any rate, I picked out my favorite portraits and created a slideshow to share with you. Be sure to leave a comment, because like I always say, I love feedback.

I’ll be posting other favorites from the photo set next week as photos of the day. If you can’t wait til then, there are pics posted to my Flickr photo stream here, here, here, here and here.  Enjoy!

I’m so sorry to hear things are rough on you. But, I’m glad you found these kids as inspiration – what great photos!

    Love you!

    1. Thanks, my friend….you know what they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. We never get more than we can bear, and for that, I am truly grateful. Those kids not only inspired me, but they made me smile. I don’t think they realize how much that meant to me at that given moment.

      XOXO – T.
